As a company, we have been around for over 20 years, in some incarnation or another. Even when the company was on the back burner or packed in boxes from another move, we were still crafting and creating and dreaming. Now, we’re crafting and creating online again. Huzzah!
In Colorado, stormdancer.com and Fairy Spirit (Rowan’s herbal line) were at DragonFest, Witches Ball, Mile Hi Con, Pride Days and psychic faires from Steamboat to Wyoming and points in between. Rowan also hosted the Fairy Spirit and Friends Psychic Faires four times a year until she relocated to Texas.Texas was mostly learning experiences...go figure. It was also serendipity on a cosmic scale, so many paths crossing at exactly the right moment - the universe at it's amazing best. Fairy Spirit was still operating on a small scale and Rowan worked the Horn Shoppe at Scarborough Faire, selling herbals after hours and at Bizarre Bazarr - her herbal bug spray and the lavender favors she managed to gather before the hoppers got to them were always big hits
Rowan's sudden relocation to Missouri spread the clan a bit thin and kept the business in boxes for over a year (and with another move looming, her part of the business is living in plastic tubs that travel well). We were ready to get on with things again with new cars making travel possible.Clan Stormdancer was at Pagan Pride Day in St Louis the past 2 years and at the Pagan PicNic in St Louis this year. And, in Colorado, Clan Stormdancer was at the last 3 Pueblo Holistic Faires and made it to the Witches Ball in Denver this past year, too!!
As the world changes around us, we still find that our joy is in crafting and our strength is in each other, so our peace is the Clan. New Age and pagan shops are flooding the market, but we think there is place for us - clean, positively charged items made in the right moon phases. No middle man, just buying from the folks that made it.
The Clan has grown and evolved in many ways. Our kids who helped out when they could barely see over the merchant tables are now artisans themselves, with their own product lines and specialties. Thanks to cell phones and laptops, we can stay connected to each other and manage this virtual shop as a Clan endeavor.
Part of our future plans are for building on land in Colorado where the clan can teach crafting and we can practice sustainable green living and alternative energy research. We are all looking forward to crafting in the same place for awhile and letting the grandkids pick up after us!
In the 80’s, just before the internet started to boom, we were attending and hosting so many faires we had a traveling storefront in the basement. If we didn’t make it ourselves, we personally knew the folks that did and we bought it directly from them. Even when we expanded and carried jewelry from Bali, we got it from Helmet who knew all his crafters and gave them a fair break. The Pagan Merchant Co-op was a grand plan for organizing a market and catalog, but we were flung all over the country (literally from coast to coast) and folks just weren’t plugged in 24/7 back in the day. Since then, most of us have grown beyond Pagan Standard Time, we all have cell phones and more than one computer, and we are pretty much centrally located in a couple of areas. As we’ve shipped back and forth to each other for events, we realized not only could we do it, we already were.
We may not be your one stop shop for everything magickal – but we might be for ritual supplies. We definitely could be for gifts for yourself or friends, especially if you want something different or in favorite colors or you have allergies.
We believe in leaving as small a footprint as possible on Mother Earth. Your packages will be shipped in recycled containers with recycled packaging as much as possible. Our office paper is from recycled sources and we recycle it when we are done scribbling on it. We encourage the recycling of our packaging, and offer refill bags of just about everything, so you can pour your new supply into your old jar. (Saves on shipping also, as the refills weigh less). We also buy supplies from the greenest sources, and organic whenever possible.
We teach and practice tolerance. We believe that education will promote understanding and that ignorance breeds fear. We feel that education is a lifestyle, not something you can ever be finished with.
Mostly, we believe in kindness. Every act of kindness sent out in the world makes the world a better place. We can make that difference – every day, it starts with us.
Our true goal is to be in a co-housing community with the whole clan in residence - crafting, teaching, and sustaining the land. We’re working on it.
Are you guys really all related?
Yep. Either by birth or by choice. (Someone said you can’t chose your family, but we thought that showed an enormous lack of imagination).
Is Stormdancer really your name?
On my Drivers License even. I know there are other Stormdancers out there, but it’s really my legal name.
Other questions will be added here as we get them….
