In ancient times, herbs were used extensively for various purposes.
We are all enjoying the resurgance of fresh and healthy foods and the wonderful delight in flavoring foods with herbs rather than processed fats. But historically, herbs have been used for much more than cooking.
Different types of herbs and plants were considered important to health, well being, peace, and a good nights rest. Many modern drugs are based on these remedies.
Based on the type of herb, the smell, the plantetary influences associated with it, the appearance of the flowers or leaves, the ancients thought that different types of energies were released, depending on what you did with it.
There were the Burning Herbs. They were thrown on the fire, but sprinkling them on incense charcoal works as well, as it is the act of burning that releases the energies. Herbal incense tends to last a long time, you only sprinkle as much as you need on the charcoal.
There were the Bathing Herbs. Modern plumbing can be a bit picky, so placing the herbs in muslin bags works a bit better than just tossing them in the tub. We also offer bath salts with herbal oils or Stormdancer Scents.
There were the Strewing Herbs. When crushed underfoot, they would release an aroma and energy. These are great for weddings and parties, and adds a bit of nature’s charm to the festivities. That page will be up soon, email me if needing sooner.
Dream pillows work on the same principal as strewing herbs. As your head is in close contact with the pillow, you get the aroma and energy of the herbs as you sleep. These pillows used to be very large and stuffed with herbs - and probably didn’t stay fresh very long. Our method is a small pillow (about the size of an index card) that you slip in between your pillow and pillowcase at night. When you wake in the morning, slip the pillow back in the ziplock bag. It stays fresh for a much longer time, and you can switch dream pillows, depending on your mood.
There were the Wearing Herbs. Some herbs, when worn, were thought to release energies that aided the wearer. We offer these as herbal amulets you can wear or tuck in your pocket, or as herbal oils you can dab on.
Our bath salt blends are based on the bathing herbs and we have used oils of the herbs to fragrance them. We use both essential and fragrance oils, and different types of high quality sea salts.
We also carry Stormdancer Scents, which are unique and original recipes of our own creation.
